Question : CHALLAN BY TRAFFIC POLICE



(a) the number of vehicles with tinted glasses challaned by the Delhi Traffic Police during the current year;

(b) the rules adopted by the Delhi Traffic Police for putting black film on windowpanes of vehicles/cars for protection from heat;

(c) whether any awareness programme for the public has been launched in this regard by the Delhi Police; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a): During the current year (upto 15.08.2011) 37231 vehicles have been prosecuted by the Delhi Traffic Police, for the use of tinted glass/dark film, under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules,1989.

(b): Delhi Traffic Police has adopted Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, which regulates the use of tinted glass/dark film in motor vehicles.

(c) & (d): Press advertisements regarding use of tinted glass/dark film in motor vehicles are published in news papers by Delhi Police for educating the motorists. Besides, road safety awareness programmes are also organised for different categories of road users wherein guidelines/tips on the use of dark films and tinted glasses are given. The field staff of Traffic Unit also organizes special drives against the use of tinted glasses/dark films wherein motorists/car dealers are also sensitized about the relevant Rules.
