Question : Conservation of National Parks

(a) The total funds spent by the Government for the Conservation of National Parks during each of the last three years, State/UT-wise;
(b) The total amount of revenue earned through tourism from the National Parks during the said period, State/UT-wise; and
(c) the steps taken by the Government for conservation and preservation of National Parks and encourage tourism in such parks in the country?

(a) The details of financial assistance provided by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to States/UTs under the Centrally Sponsored Schemes ‘Development of Wildlife Habitats’, ‘Project Tiger’ and ‘Project Elephant’ for conservation of wildlife and management of Protected Areas, including National Parks, during the last three years are at Annexure-1a, 1b and 1c.

(b) Management of National Parks, including eco-tourism activities, is the mandate of the respective State Government /Union Territory Administration. The State/UT wise details of revenue earned from National Parks through eco-tourism are not collated at the level of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

(c) The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change provides financial assistance to the States/UTs for protection, conservation and management of wildlife in the National Parks under the Centrally Sponsored schemes ‘Development of Wildlife Habitats’, ‘Project Tiger’ and ‘Project Elephant’. Guidelines to promote sustainable ecotourism in and around Tiger Reserves have been issued by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). Management Plans of Protected Areas also include measures to promote eco-tourism and ensure conservation and protection of wildlife.
