Question : BAN ON TERRORIST ORGANISATIONS IN TAMIL NADU



(a) whether the Government of Tamil Nadu has urged the Union Government to impose ban on certain extremist, secessionist and communal organisations operating in the State;

(b) if so, the details in this regard;

(c) whether the State Government has also sought more central assistance for modernising the State Police Force; and

(d) if so, the reaction of the Government thereto?

(a)&(b): Government of Tamil Nadu has sent proposals to the Central Government to declare certain organizations as `unlawful associations` under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. The proposals to ban the organisations are carefully examined with reference to the available evidence before any view is taken in the matter in consultation with the State Government and concerned agencies/Departments.

(c): Yes Sir.

(d): Funds under the Scheme of Modernisation of State Police Forces would be released to the State Government on receipt of complete utilization certificates for the funds released during the previous financial year.
