Question : Registration of Vehicle

(a) whether the Government has any policy or rule to register vehicles as "Ambulance";

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government is aware that number of vehicles running as "Ambulance" against the rules; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the action taken thereon?

(a) & (b) Provisions regarding registration of motor vehicles including Ambulances are contained in Chapter-IV of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988(MV Act) and Chapter-III of Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989(CMVRs).

(c) & (d) The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had constituted an expert committee in February 2012 to formulate ‘National Ambulance Code’ along with detailed specifications for various types of ambulances for the country. The Expert Committee has submitted a draft National Ambulance Code for approval of the Ministry. The Ministry has notified draft GSR 335(E) dated 23.03.2016, inviting comments/views from the public.
