Question : PENDING CASES UNDER RTI



(a) whether there is growing number of pending cases under Right to Information Act (RTI);

(b) if so, the details of the cases pending till date Ministries/Department-wise and State-wise; and

(c) the reasons for delay in disposal of the said cases and the remedial action/measures being taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) to (c) : The Information is not centrally maintained. However, the Right to Information Act, 2005 has an inbuilt mechanism to ensure that the applications under the Act are disposed of in time. The Act, inter-alia , provides that if a Public Information Officer does not furnish information in time, a penalty of upto Rs. 25,000/- may be imposed on him by the Central/State Information Commission.
