Question : NATIONAL RIVER CONSERVATION PLAN



(a) the details of the rivers being restored/ conserved under National River Conservation Plan (NRCP);

(b) whether River Jhelum in Kashmir is facing a massive threat of degradation; and

(c) if so, the details thereof including action taken to bring it under NRCP?

(a) A total 41 rivers in 21 States are being restored/conserved through financial and technological support for various pollution abatement schemes under National River Conse- rvation Plan (NRCP).

(b)&(c) River Jhelum in Kashmir is neither included in the list of 150 polluted river stretches identified by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) as per their report of 2010 nor any pollution abatement works have been sanctioned under NRCP for river Jhelum so far.
