Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE
(SHRI JAGAT PRAKASH NADDA)
(a): The Government of India is implementing “Tertiary Care for Cancer” Scheme. Under the said scheme, Government of India is assisting to establish/set up State Cancer Institutes (SCI) and Tertiary Care Cancer Centres (TCCC) in different parts of the country. SCI and TCCC shall mentor all Cancer related activities in their respective areas, including research and awareness. Setting up of National Cancer Institute at Jhajjar (Haryana) and establishing a second campus of Chittranjan National Cancer Institute, Kolkata are also approved.

(b) & (c): A proposal was received in March 2015 from Government of Maharashtra for second radiotherapy unit at Government Medical College and Research Centre, Aurangabad. However, the same could not be considered since the Institute was not identified as State Cancer Institutes (SCI) or Tertiary Care Cancer Centres (TCCC) under the existing scheme for the State of Maharashtra.

Under the scheme, one State Cancer Institute and two Tertiary Care Cancer Centres are allocated for the State of Maharashtra. Recently, the State Government has identified State Cancer Institute to be set up at Government Medical College, Aurangabad. The identification for Tertiary Care Cancer Centre locations is to be done by the State Government.
