Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF THE STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT AND FORESTS ( SHRI NAMO NARAIN MEENA )

(a) to (c) For abatement and prevention of water pollution, various environmental legislations have been put in place and general as well as industry specific effluent standards have been notified from time to time. As per the provisions of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and its amendments, no person shall establish or take any step to establish any industry, operation or process or any treatment and disposal system which is likely to discharge sewage or trade effluent into a stream or well or sewer without previous consent of the State Pollution Control Board(SPCB).

The industries, factories and companies generating waste water are, therefore, required to set up Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs) as water purification system for conforming to the notified norms and for obtaining consent to establish from the SPCBs.
