(a)&(b) There are 174 monuments declared as of national importance in Delhi as per the
Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958, of which 12 have been
encroached upon. Besides, the Government of NCT Delhi has also declared 6 monuments as
protected under the Delhi Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains
Act, 2004 and all of these are free from encroachment.
(c) In 1950, there were 161 monuments in Delhi, declared as of national importance whereas
at present, the total number is 174.
(d) More or less the original view of the monuments are still intact, despite illegal
encroachments.
(e) The monuments, archaeological sites and remains declared as of national importance
are conserved, preserved and maintained by way of regular structural repairs on need basis as
per archaeological norms and subject to availability of resources.
