Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF TRIBAL AFFAIRS
(SHRI SUDARSHAN BHAGAT)

(a) Government of Jharkhand had sent a proposal in December 2004 for inclusion of several communities of Jharkhand including Kurmi,/Kudmi (Mahto) community of Northern Chota Nagpur, in list of Scheduled Tribes of Jharkhand. No proposal regarding inclusion of Tanti community in list of Scheduled Tribes of Jharkhand, has been received from Govt. of Jharkhand.

(b) The ethnographic report in respect of Kurmi/Kudmi (Mahto) community furnished by the Government of Jharkhand in 2015, with regard to this proposal, did not support inclusion of Kurmi/Kudmi (Mahto) community in Scheduled Tribes list of Jharkhand but recommended that the status of the community was required to be maintained as it was. Accordingly, it was conveyed to Government of Jharkhand vide this Ministry’s letter dated 31.7.2015, that no further action is pending with the Government of India since the State Government has not recommended the inclusion of Kurmi/Kudmi (Mahto) community in list of Scheduled Tribes of Jharkhand.
