Question : SOCIO ECONOMIC AND EDUCATIONAL BACKWARDNESS OF MINORITIES



(a) whether the Government is aware of the socio-economic and educational backwardness of minorities in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;

(c) the steps taken by the Government to ameliorate the financial, social and educational condition of minority communities, State-wise; and

(d) the funds released under this head during the last three years and the current year?

(a)& (b) Yes, Madam. The Sachar Committee and Ranganath Mishra Commission very elaborately brought out the Socio-economic and educational backwardness prevailing among minority communities. The above two reports are available on the official website of this ministry at www.minorityaffairs.gov.in.

(c)&(d) Ministry of Minority Affairs for the development of minority communities notified under Section 2(c) of National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992, implements the following schemes:-

(i) Multi sectoral Development Programme (MsDP).

(ii) Pre-matric Scholarship Scheme.

(iii) Post-matric Scholarship Scheme.

(iv) Merit-cum Means based Scholarship.

(v) Free Coaching and Allied Scheme

(vi) Maulana Azad National Fellowship.

(vii) Equity Contribution to National Minorities Development & Finance Corporation (NMDFC).

(viii) Enhancement of Corpus Fund of Maulana Azad Education Foundation (MAEF).

(ix) Computerization of records of State Wakf Boards.

(x) Leadership Development of Minority Women.

(xi) Skill Development Initiative- New Scheme yet to be launched.
