Question : SUGAR EXPORT TO BANGLADESH



(a) whether the export of sugar to Bangladesh has been declining during the last three years;

(b) if so, the reasons therefor, year-wise;

(c) the steps taken by the Government to promote export of sugar; and

(d) the extent of success achieved therein?

(a): The total quantum of sugar exported to Bangladesh during the last three years and current year were as under:

(b), (c) & (d): Sugar is a freely exportable commodity and its exports are undertaken by sugar factories as per their commercial prudence, after an assessment of position with regard to stock of sugar held by them, prospects of sugar production and requirement of sugar for consumption in the country, domestic and international prices of sugar and other relevant factors, including the provisions of the EXIM policy.
