(a) the number of Self Help Groups (SHGs) formed under Swarna Jayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana so far, State-wise especially in Andhra Pradesh;

(b) the number of income generating assets created by these SHGs so far, State-wise; and

(c) the steps Government have taken or proposed to take to make SGSY more effective and productive?

(a) & (b) State-wise number of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) formed, number of SHGs that have taken up economic activity and number of members covered by SHGs through economic activity under Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) since 1.4.99 up to June, 2002 is enclosed at Annexure-I.

(c) Steps taken for effective implementation of SGSY are as follows:


(i) Regular review of the programme in the meeting of the State Level SGSY Committee in each State/ UT and by the Central Level Coordination Committee.

(ii) Vigilance and Monitoring Committees have been formed at the State, District and Block levels for monitoring of the implementation of the programme. Local MPs and MLAs are the members of the District and Block Level Committees, respectively.

(iii) Regularly monitoring of the programme at the State / Central Level, on the basis of Monthly, and Annual Progress Reports.

(iv) Visit of the Area Officers of the Ministry at regular intervals to States/DRDAs.

(v) Participation of the Swarozgaris from different States/ UTs in Fairs for marketing SGSY products.

(vi) Regular training and sensitization of the State/ DRDA, field level functionaries as well as Bank Officials about the programme.

(vii) Consultation, at regular interval, with Reserve Bank of India, NABARD and other commercial banks about credit related issues.

(viii) Based on the recommendations of National Conference on the `SHG Movement and the SGSY` , held last year, Report of the Working Group on Poverty Alleviation for the 10th Five Year Plan and feedback/ suggestions from the various State/UTs certain amendments have been made in the SGSY guidelines to make the scheme effective.

(ix) Creation of marketing infrastructure in the States through SGSY Special Projects.
