Question : Sports Promotional Schemes

(a) whether the Sports Authority of India (SAI) is implementing sports promotional schemes to identify talented sportspersons in the age group of 8-25 years and nurture them to excel at national and
international competitions and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether SAI has established regional centres and educational institutions to implement the above sports promotional schemes in the country;

(c) if so, the number of regional centres and educational institutions functioning for this purpose;

(d) the number of sportspersons who availed the benefits across the country during each of the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise;

(e) the funds provided/utilized for the above schemes during the said period, State/ UT-wise;

(f) whether the Government proposes to open such regional centres in various States and if so, the details thereof along with the locations where such centres are proposed to be opened; and

(g) the other steps taken by the Government for effective implementation of the sports promotional schemes?

(a) Yes Sir, Sports Authority of India (SAI) under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS) is implementing the following schemes for identifying sporting talent of all age groups and its nurturing to excel at National and International level:-
• Khelo India Scheme
. National Sports Talent Contest (NSTC) (61 Centres)
• Army Boys Sports Company (ABSC) (26 Centres)
• SAI Training Centre (STC) (59 Centres)
• Special Area Games (SAG) (21 Centres)
• Extension Centres of STC/SAG (90 Centres)
• Centre of Excellence (COE) (16 Centres)
• National Sports Academies

(b) & (c) Yes Sir. The list of SAI Regional Centres and Educational Institutions under MYAS is at Annexure -I

(d) The information is at Annexure- II.

(e) MYAS provides funds to SAI for implementation of schemes for promotion of sports through training centres established by SAI, assisting National Sports Federations (NSFs) and sportspersons of high performance potential. State and Union Territory wise funds are not provided to SAI. Information of funds released by MYAS to SAI during the last 3 years is at Annexure –III.

(f) No Sir. Does not arise.

(g) The Government monitors sports promotion schemes on regular basis, approves Annual Calendar for Training and Competitions (ACTCs) of various National Sports Federations and oversee training facilities established by SAI besides regularly interacting with sports persons.
