Question : Assistance from World Bank

(a) whether World Bank has provided financial assistance/loans to the State Governments to help in keeping the environment pollution free;
(b) if so, the details thereof State-wise, including Chhattisgarh; and
(c) the details of the funds released during the last three years and current year for the said purpose, State-wise?

(a) World Bank is currently financing two projects on environment pollution. These are National Ganga River Basin Project (US $ 1 billion) and Capacity Building for Industrial Pollution Management (US $ 54.18 million).

(b) The National Ganga River Basin Project is being implemented in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal and the Capacity Building for Industrial Pollution Management project is being implemented in Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal.

(c) The funds released by World Bank for each project are as under:
(i) National Ganga River Basin Project - Rs.301 crores (from May, 2011 to date). This includes Rs.161 crores to Uttar Pradesh, Rs.40 crores to Bihar and Rs.100 Crores to National Mission Clean Ganga.
(ii) Capacity Building for Industrial Pollution Management Project – Rs.43.04 crores (from September, 2010 to date). This includes Rs.6 crores to Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Rs.18.66 crores to Andhra Pradesh and Rs.18.27 crores to West Bengal.
