Question : Indian Sports Associations

(a) the total number of internationally recognized Indian Sports Associations
working in the country;
(b) the names of Indian Sports Associations suspended permanently/temporarily
by the International Sports Organisation during the last three years along
with the reasons therefor;
(c) whether any financial assistance is provided by the Ministry of Youth Affairs
and Sports to the players, coaches and other staff affected by the said
suspension and if so, the details thereof; and
(d) the details of efforts made by the Union Government to get recognition for
the suspended Sports Associations at the international level?

(a) Madam, as per information available in the Ministry there are 57
internationally recognized associations in the country. However, only 49 National
Sports Federations (NSFs) have been granted annual recognition by this
department for the year 2016 as per the list enclosed.
(b) Three organisations namely Indian Amateur Boxing Federation,
Paralympic Committee of India (suspension lifted recently) and Korfball Federation
of India were suspended by the respective international federation, as per the
details given below:-

Substantial reform
of KFI were needed.</pre>
(c) Yes, Madam, financial assistance is provided by the Ministry to the
players, coaches and other staff. In order to safeguard the interest of players who
have the potential to win medals in the prominent international events,
international federations are requested to accept their entries in the international
events through Sports Authority of India (SAI).
(d) It is for the affected organization to comply with various provisions and
get recognition from their respective International Federation. However, in certain
situations, Government does write to international body in the interest of sports.
