Question : RAILWAY ENGINEERS REGIMENT IN JAMALPUR RAIL FACTORY



(a) whether a Railway Engineers Regiment (Territorial Army) was running the emergency services in Jamalpur Rail Factory of Bihar, which has been closed down now;

(b) if so, the reasons behind closing down the Railway Engineers Regiment by the Government;

(c) whether the Government proposes to reopen it; and

(d) if so, by when and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): Yes, Sir.

(b): 969 Railway Engineers Regiment (Territorial Army), Jamalpur, which is a Defence paid Unit is being converted into non-Railway Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) by the Ministry of Defence.

(c): Yes, Sir. Ministry of Railways have requested the Ministry of Defence to re-raise the Regiment as Railway paid at Jamalpur.

(d): Ministry of Defence propose to complete the process of re-raising the Regiment by 31.05.2005.
