(a) whether the Government has received any representation for setting up of Turmeric Board;
(b) if so, the details thereof along with the action taken by the Government thereon; and
(c) whether the Government has a proposal to provide MSP for Turmeric growers/industry, if so, the details thereof?

(a): The Prime Minister’s Office forwarded a DO letter dated 21st October, 2015 from the Chief Minister of Maharashtra enclosing a representation submitted by Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, Nizamabad Constituency, Telangana for setting up a Turmeric Board.
(b): In the representation, it was requested to set up a Turmeric Board and also to provide Minimum Support Price (MSP) for turmeric growers/ industry. This Department examined the proposal and was of the view that since several agencies like ICAR, Directorate of Arecanut and Spices Development, Spices Board and State Agricultural Universities are engaged in research, development marketing and export of turmeric crop, an establishment of a separate Board does not seem to be necessary at present, as the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare has initiated several programmes to be implemented through these organizations to support the turmeric farmers in the production process.
(c): At present there is no proposal to provide MSP for turmeric growers/ industry.
