Question : TOILET FACILITIES IN RURAL HOUSEHOLDS



(a) whether a large number of rural households in the country do not have access to toilet facilities;

(b) if so, the details thereof including the number and percentage of such rural households in the country, State/UT-wise;

(c) the funds allocated for the purpose during each of the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise; and

(d) the measures taken/being taken by the Government for providing toilet facility to every rural household in the country?

(a) to (d) A Statement is laid on the table of the House. Statement referred to in reply to Lok Sabha Starred Question No. 168 for 4.12.2014.

(a) & (b) Yes Madam. The details of rural households without access to toilets as per Census 2011 is at Annexure-1.

(c) Since the rural sanitation programmes, the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) {SBM-G} and the earlier Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (NBA), are demand driven schemes, no annual State/UT wise allocations are made. However, State/UT-wise Central share released under the programmes during last three years and the current year is at Annexuve-2.

(d) To accelerate providing access to toilet facilities to every rural household in the country, the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) has been launched on 2nd October, 2014, which aims at attaining an Open Defecation Free India by 2nd October, 2019.
