Question : Petrol Production from Crop Stubble

(a) whether the Government proposes to set up petrol producing projects from crop stubble/agriculture waste in the country including Punjab;
(b) if so, the details thereof along with status of the proposed projects at present, State/UT-wise; and
(c) the details of the expenditure likely to be incurred on the said project?

(a) to (c): On 10.12.2014, the Government allowed procurement of second generation ethanol produced from other non-food feedstocks, like cellulosic and ligno cellulosic materials including petrochemical route.
Oil PSUs under Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas have decided setting up of twelve 2G ethanol plants across eleven States in the country, including one at Bhatinda, Punjab.
The financial outlay of these projects is estimated at Rs. 800 crore to Rs. 1000 crore per plant.
