Question : Pending Cases with CIC

(a) whether there has been excessive increase in the number of pending cases before the Central Information Commission (CIC) in the year 2017 vis-a-vis previous year;
(b) if so, the details thereof, year-wise;
(c) the details of complaints relating to non-furnishing of information that are lying pending against the Central Public Information Officers in the CIC along with the details of the oldest complaint;
(d) whether any directions have been issued to the Central Public Information Officers by the Chief Information Commissioner during the last three years; and
(e) if so, the total amount of penalty imposed by the CIC during 2014-16 with number of officers affected by such penalty and the action taken for speedy disposal of the complaint relating to non furnishing of information as per R.T.I. Act?

(a) & (b): The details of the total number of second appeal/complaint cases pending for disposal with Central Information Commission during the last three years is as under:-

(c): The number of cases (appeals and complaints) as on 19.12.2017 in the Central Information Commission is 24,734.

The oldest complaints which are six in number were registered in the year 2012.
(d): Central Information Commission adjudicates the second appeals and complaints received in the Commission. The commission decides appeal and complaint cases as per provision of the RTI Act, 2005. In appropriate cases the commission imposes penalty on the Central Public Information Officers (CPIOs).
(e): The penalty imposed by the Commission during 2014-15 and 2015-16 are as under:-
