Question : DEFENCE PACTS



(a) whether the Government has made any assessment of the major threats posing the country`s security;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the details of defence pacts signed between India and other countries during the last three years and the current year;

(d) the details of proposals for such pacts on the anvil; and

(e) the details of current projects involving Indian and foreign private enterprises or joint ventures relating to defence sector?

MINISTER OF DEFENCE (SHRI MANOHAR PARRIKAR)

(a) & (b): Government constantly reviews the security scenario from time to time. Based on the prevailing threat perception, necessary steps are taken to keep the armed forces in a state of readiness to meet any eventualities.

(c) & (d): India enters into Defence Cooperation Framework Agreements / Memorandum of Under- standings with a number of friendly foreign countries in pursuance of its defence cooperation requirements, such as training, technical cooperation, exercises, etc. The details of the Defence Cooperation Agree- ments/ Memorandum of Understandings entered into in the last three years and those on the anvil are placed at Appendix `A`.

(e): The details of the Joint Ventures between Indian and foreign Companies, approved by the government as on 31.01.2015 are placed at Appendix `B`.
