Question : TRIBAL STUDENTS



(a) whether there is any institution in India to train the good students among the Tribals;

(b) if so, the details thereof, place-wise;

(c) whether the Government had any proposal to provide interest free and soft loans for the weaker students, particularly Tribal students;

(d) if so, the details thereof and if not the reasons therefor; and

(e) the steps taken by the Central Government to increase the education and provide the facilities for the most backward classes of Tribals?

(a) & (b) : There is no specific institution only to train good students among the Tribals. However, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs administers a scheme namely “Vocational Training in Tribal Areas”, implemented by the State Governments as well as NGOs, to impart vocational training to ST students to enable them to gain employment or self-employment.

(c) & (d) : There is no proposal in this Ministry to provide interest free and soft loans for ST students.

(e) : In order to provide education and related facilities to ST students, Ministry of Tribal Affairs supplements the efforts of Ministry of HRD (the line Ministry) through following main schemes:-

(i) Post Matric Scholarship for ST students

(ii) Top Class Education for ST students

(iii) Hostels for Scheduled Tribe Girls and Boys.

(iv) Establishment of Ashram Schools in Tribal Sub Plan Areas

(v) Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship for ST students

(vi) National Overseas Scholarship for ST students

(vii) Upgradation of Merit of ST students

(viii) Grant under Article 275 (1) for Eklavaya Model Residential Schools from class VI to Class XII for ST students
(ix) Strengthening Education among ST Girls in Low Literacy Districts in Low Literacy Pockets for development of literacy among Scheduled Tribe girls.
