Question : HIGHER ADMINISTRATIVE GRADE



(a) whether the newly established IITs have been permitted by the Government to pay more salaries to their faculty;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government proposes to implement Higher Administrative Grade (HAG) to the faculty in IIT; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): In a recent meeting of the Minister of Human Resource Develop-ment with the Directors of new Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), a proposal to top up salaries of faculty was deliberated upon. It was felt that such topping up could be allowed provided it is done through internal accruals and Government funds are not used for the purpose.

(c) & (d): Yes, Sir. The Government have decided that effective from 18.08.2009, upto a maximum of 40% of the posts of Professors at any given point of time, will be eligible for Higher Academic Grade (HAG) scale of Rs. 67000 – 79000/- without any Grade Pay, after 6 years of regular service in the Academic Grade Pay (AGP) of Rs. 10500/- per month, subject to performance evaluation.
