Question : EXPEDITION TO MOUNT EVEREST



(a) whether the Government has formulated any policy guidelines for Mount Everest expedition;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether there has been any reciprocal agreement made with Nepal regarding the above context;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the number of mountaineers who go to conquer Everest, every year and the number of mountaineers who had succeeded and died so far?

(a&b) No Madam, Government has not formulated any policy guidelines for Mount Everest Expedition, as the mountain is on the border of Nepal and China;

(c&d) No Madam, there is no reciprocal agreement made with Government of Nepal;

(e) The Government does not keep any record of mountaineers who go to conquer Everest every year, however, as per information received from Indian Mountaineering Foundation on an average 50 to 60 people have been going to conquer Mt. Everest every year and 22 mountaineers have died till date.
