Question : NATIONAL LAKE CONSERVATION PLAN TO CHECK POLLUTION



(a) the progress made by each State Government/Union-Territory under the National Lake Conservation Plan during each of the last three years and the current year;

(b) the amount of funds allocated and utilised by each State/Union Territory under the said Plan during the above period;

(c) whether the Government proposes to include more lakes under the said Plan during the remaining period of current Five Year Plan; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b) The Ministry is implementing a Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National Lake Conservation Plan (NLCP) for conservation and management of polluted and degraded lakes in urban and semi-urban areas of the country on 70:30 cost sharing between the Central Government and the respective State Governments.

Based on the proposals received from different states, the Ministry has so far, sanctioned projects for conservation of 61 lakes in 14 States, at a total cost of Rs.1028.19 crore. State-wise details on progress made by State Governments/Union Territories in terms of projects completed and funds released under NLCP during last three years & the current year, are annexed.

(c) & (d) The proposals for new lakes are considered for sanction subject to their admissibility as per NLCP guidelines, pollution status, prioritization by States and availability of funds under the Plan.
