(a) the number of universities and higher learning educational institutions which are on the verge of financial crisis ;
(b) the funding pattern and requirements of all such educational institutions in the country;
(c) whether the present funding pattern of universities and
higher learning educational institutions is not
satisfactory; and
(d) if so, the remedial steps proposed to be taken in this
regard ?

(a) : The Plan and Non-Plan allocations provided to UGC
for disbursement to the eligible universities and colleges
have been steadily increasing over the years. An amount of
Rs.2000.00 crores under Plan and Rs.4696.68 crores (approx.)
under Non-Plan has been allocated to UGC during the 9th Plan
as against a sum of Rs.922.22 crore under Plan and
s.19056.45 crore under Non-Plan provided during the 8th
Plan.
