Question : Skill Development in NH Projects

(a) Whether it is mandatory for the companies worth Rs. 100 crore or more, which are part on National Highway (NH) Projects to provide training to the workers for their skill development under the workers for their skill development under the scheme of the Government;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has taken any step to build an infrastructure in this regard;

(d) if so, the details thereof and the estimated cost of it; and

(e) the time by which it is likely to be implemented and the extent to which it is likely to be beneficial?

(a) No, Madam.

(b) to (e) Not Applicable. However, the Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport &Highways has initiated Skill Development Program under RPL( Recognition of Prior Learning ) scheme to train Construction Workers in Highway Sector in the year 2016 through DG(Training)( Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship) in respect of Highway Projects costing more than Rs.100 Crores. Guidelines to this effect have been issued. Under this program, till date, 95000 workmen have been registered, 82000 workmen have been trained in the 6 trades (Masonry, Bar bending, Scaffolding, Shuttering/ Carpentry, Plumbing and Painting).
