whether the Government has set up / proposes to set up a “Centre for Bio Molecular Engineering” Institute for Synthetic Biology in the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof and the location identified for the purpose;
(c) whether any land is notified for the setting up of this institute and if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether any Committee is formed to look after this project; and
(e) if so, the details thereof and the time by which it is likely to be set up along with the steps taken by the Government in this regard?

a) to (a) to (d) Yes Madam, Government has received a proposal for setting up a ‘Centre for Molecular Engineering Institute for Synthetic Biology’ in Bangalore from Govt. of Karnataka. The proposal is for a Centre to be located in an existing institute.

(e) Yes Madam, Department of Biotechnology has constituted an Expert Committee to evaluate the proposal and revision has been recommended.
The proposal is under consideration by the Department.
