Question : INCOME TAX COLLECTION



(a) whether Government is not fully implementing norms/criteria/laws for income tax collection;

(b) if so, the details of hurdles coming in the ways; and

(a) No Sir. The Government is folly implementing norms/criteria/laws for income tax collection. The measures taken by the Government have resulted in substantial increase in collection of revenues from Direct Taxes. During Financial Year 2006-07, the Department collected revenue of Rs. 2,30,184 crore from Direct Taxes vis-a-vis budget estimates of Rs. 2,10,684 crore and revised estimates of Rs.2,29,272 crore. In 2007-08, the Department has been able to collect Rs. 3,06,815 crore(provisional data) against budget estimates of Rs.2,67,490 crore and revised estimates of Rs. 3,04,760 crore.
