Question : INSURED PERSONS IN ESI



(a) the number of insured persons under ESI cover at present in the country, State-wise;

(b) the ratio of hospitals for the insured persons in the country particularly in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu;

(c) whether the hospitals are less in number than requirement;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the steps being taken by the Government to fulfil the need of hospitals to provide adequate Medicare to the insured persons?

(a): State-wise information is annexed.

(b): At present there are 140 ESI Hospitals in the country for 80,03,800 insured persons. In Tamil Nadu there are 9 ESI Hospitals having 1955 beds for 11,41,850 insured persons whereas in Maharashtra there are 13 ESI Hospitals having 3600 beds for 11,67,150 insured persons.

(c) to (e): As per policy of ESI Corporation 4 beds are provided for 1000 Insured Persons family units and minimum a 50- bedded hospital is established wherever a minimum of 25000 Insured Persons family units are available. As per policy of the Corporation tie up arrangements are made with other Government/private hospitals to provide indoor treatment to the beneficiaries, wherever no ESI Hospitals are available.
