Question : MRP OF MEDICINES

(a): whether All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists and Members of Parliament have approached the Ministry to come out with the final decision regarding common MRP of medicines throughout the country;

(b): whether the Association of Chemists and Druggists have observed a protest Bandh on October 5, 2000 throughout the country;

(c): whether the Government have come to a conclusion in regard to implementation of the common MRP;

(d): if so, the details in this regard;

(e): if not, the stage at which the matter stands at present

(a) & (b): Yes, Sir.

(c) to (e): The issue has been examined by this Department in consultation with AIOCD and Industry Associations from time to time. In February, 2000 a Working Group consisting of members from the Industry, Consumer Organisations and representatives of the AIOCD, was constituted to go into all the aspects related to the issue. The Working Group has since submitted its report to the Government.
