Question : Sports Infrastructure in Assam

(a) the funds allocated to the State of Assam for enhancement of basic infrastructure of playgrounds, stadiums and other sports related infrastructure during the last four years;
(b) the details of the projects sanctioned and funds released during the last four years for State of Assam, district-wise;
(c) whether new sports complexes were constructed during the last five years in the North Eastern States; and
(d) if so, the details thereof along with the expenditure involved, State-wise?

(a) and (b) ‘Sports’ being a State subject the responsibility for providing sports facilities, including enhancement of basic infrastructure of playgrounds, stadiums and other sports related infrastructure in Assam, rests with the State Government of Assam. Central Government supplements efforts of the State/Union Territories by focusing on training, coaching and support for bridging gaps in sports infrastructure. Sports Authority of India (SAI) has four SAI Training Centers at Guwahati, Golaghat, Tinsukia and Kokrajhar along with one Regional Center at Guwahati catering to the sporting needs of sportspersons. Information of the infrastructure projects sanctioned and funds released during the last four years for the State of Assam is at Annexure – I.

(c) and (d) This Ministry has not sanctioned/constructed any sports complex in the North Eastern States during the last 5 years.
