Question : FPIs in Bihar

(a) the details of Food Processing Industries (FPIs) functioning in Bihar and the number of employees working therein;

(b) the details of number of FPIs which have received technical assistance from the Central Government during the last four years and the current financial year; and

(c) whether the Government proposes to increase the number of FPIs in Bihar, if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): As per Annual survey of Industries 2017-18, the number of registered food processing units operational in Bihar is 747 with 24258 employees working in these units. As per National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO) 73rd round (2015-16) data, the number of unregistered food processing units operational in Bihar is 145300.

(b) & (c): Under component schemes of Central Sector Umbrella Scheme -Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY), Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) provides mostly credit linked financial assistance (capital subsidy) in the form of grants-in-aid to the individuals, farmers, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), Entrepreneurs, Cooperatives, Societies, Self Help Groups (SHGs), Private Companies and Central/ State PSUs etc. for setting up of food processing/preservation industries. A total of 9 projects located in Bihar have been approved for assistance under various component schemes of PMKSY. The details of these projects is at Annexure.

As part of Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, MoFPI has launched an all India centrally sponsored scheme called "PM Formalisation of Micro food processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme" for providing financial, technical and business support for upgradation of existing micro food processing enterprises. Under the scheme, a total of 10261 units have been allocated to Bihar and an amount of Rs. 5.04 Cr. has been released.
