Question : NUCLEAR POWER GENERATION



(a) whether the percentage share of nuclear generation in the country vis-à-vis other sources is very low;

(b) if so, the details thereof, during the last three years; year-wise;

(c) the expected share of nuclear power in the country by the end of 12th Five Year Plan period; and

(d) the total investment made in the nuclear power sector in the country in comparison with the other sectors of power generation during the last three years?

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR PERSONNEL, PUBLIC GRIEVANCES & PENSIONS AND PRIME MINISTER’S OFFICE (DR.JITENDRA SINGH):

(a) The share of nuclear power generation in the country during the last three years is in the range of 3.5 to 3.7% in the total electricity generation.

(b) The share of electricity generation for the grid connected sources of power in the country in the last three years is as follows:

(c) Currently, commercially operated installed nuclear generating capacity in the country is 4680 MW and seven nuclear reactors having generating capacity of 5300 MW are under various stages of construction and commissioning. With the completion of the construction and commissioning of these reactors by the end of the XII Five Year Plan period, the share of nuclear electricity generation is expected to be about 4% of total electricity generation in the country.

(d) The total investment made in the nuclear power sector in the country in comparison with the other sectors of power generation during the last three years is given below:
