Question : PAY SCALES OF RAILWAY EMPLOYEES



(a) whether various associations, organizations of railway employees have submitted representation regarding not getting proper pay protection in Vth Central Pay Commission;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the reaction of the Government thereto; and

(d) the steps taken by the Union Government to ensure appropriate pay scales for those employees in the VIth Pay Commission?

(a) to (d): The Government had received a proposal from the Railway Board based on the demand made by its recognized federations regarding initial fixation of pay in the revised pay scales recommended by the Fifth Central Pay Commission. After examination of the same, the Government had not agreed to the proposal. The Terms of Reference of the Sixth Central Pay Commission, constituted on 5.10.2006, include working out a comprehensive pay package for Central Government employees, keeping in view various factors.
