Question : TOILETS



(a) whether steps have been taken by the Government to make special toilets in 1650 identified villages situated on both sides of Ganga river and sewage treatment plants are proposed so that untreated sewage water cannot flow into Ganga and its tributaries; and

(b) if so, the details thereof alongwith the details of funds to be released by the Government to ensure the implementation of the said scheme?

(a) A total of 1649 Gram Panchayats in 5 states have been identified as being situated along the banks of river Ganga, The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation has prepared an Action Plan to make all these Gram Panchayats free from open defecation and to implement in them appropriate Solid and Liquid Waste Management activities.

(b) The cost to provide Individual household latrines to all uncovered households in these Gram Panchayats and to initiate Solid and Liquid Waste Management activities, as per provisions of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), is Rs. 2112.65 crore, of which the Central share is Rs. 1571.62 crore. These activities are being implemented using resources available under the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (NBA)/Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) released by the Ministry to the States.
