Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF DEFENCE

(SHRI GEORGE FERNANDES)

(a) & (b): The Report of the Committee was submitted to the Government on 6th August, 1996.

(c) to (f): The recommendations made by the Committee cover a wide area of activities having far reaching implications and, therefore, required an in-depth examination in consultation with Service HQrs. and other organisations concerned. This necessitated a series of consultations over the period. While tentative conclusions have been reached in regard to the recommendations, final decisions thereon are expected to be taken shortly. There is no proposal to lay the Report on the Table of the House at this late stage.
