STATEMENT IN REPLY TO LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION No.119 FOR 01.08.2005 REGARDING EXPANSION OF TOURISM INDUSTRY
(a): Yes, Sir. India`s vast bounties of nature; its great treasures of art, architecture and
philosophical thoughts; its rich cultural heritage; its rural and wildlife and practices of
Yoga, Siddha, Ayurveda and Unani Systems of dealing with physical and mental
ailments; etc. offer variety of tourism options for foreign tourists and it is felt that the
present level of foreign tourist arrivals is much below India`s potential.
(b) and (c): Perspective Plans of 20 years for development of tourism in States/UTs
have been prepared.
