Question : Poor Condition of Highways

(a) whether any assessment is being made by the Government regarding the poor condition of Highways in the country, and if so, the details thereof, State-wise;

(b) whether the Government has identified such highways where number of road accidents are increasing and if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has issued any guidelines regarding the use of state-of-the-art network survey vehicles for this purpose and if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether the highways have been identified for using such vehicles and if so, the details thereof; and

(e) whether the highway towards Dadra and Nagar Haveli (UT) is covered under the identified highways and if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (e) The assessment of condition on stretches of National Highways is carried out before taking up the development and maintenance works. 789 black spots have been identified based on accidents/ fatalities from the year 2011 to 2014. Recently Ministry has issued guidelines for the use of Network Survey Vehicle (NSV) for assessing the road conditions for National Highway projects involving widening/ strengthening etc. in the country including Dadra and Nagar Haveli(UT).
