Question : STRENGTH OF CPMFS CPOS



(a) the names and strength of Central Para Military Forces (CPMFs)/CPOs that are under the direct charge of the Home Ministry or report to it under any other statutory enactment or remit;

(b) the details of statutory remit of each of these CPMFs/CPOs and Special Frontier Force (SFF) and whether they are also under the organisational charge of the Ministry of Home Affairs;

(c) the number of new battalions/ companies raised and added to each of these CPMFs/CPOs between 01 April 2007 to 01 July 2012;

(d) the number of such CPMFs currently deployed for internal security duties as on 01 July, 2012, force-wise and unit-wise;

(e) whether these CPMFs/CPOs are sufficient to meet the internal security challenges; and

(f) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (b) : The details are given below annexure.

@ Out of 46 Bns in AR, 5 Bns were created by culling out from existing Bns and hence not counted as new raising as manpower already exists.

(d) to (f): Deployment of CAPFs in various States embattling internal security threats depends upon the specific requirements/needs of the States, sensitivity of the situation, overall security scenario and the availability of CAPFs etc. Keeping in view such factors, CAPFs have been deployed in various States of the country. Further, the level of deployment of CAPFs in any State is dynamic and keep undergoing changes depending upon the developing security situation at a particular time. However, the level of deployment of CAPFs is not disclosed in the interest of National Security.
