Question : Vellayil Fishing Harbour Project

(a) Whether the Government has noticed the delay in implementation of Vellayil fishing harbour project at Kozhikode; and
(b) if so, the details of plans to revive the project?

(a) and (b): The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying on 20th November, 2012 had accorded approval to the proposal of Government of Kerala for construction of a fishing harbour at Vellayil in Kozhikode District at a total cost of Rs. 3930.20 lakh with 75% central assistance under the erstwhile CSS on Development of Marine Fisheries, Infrastructure and Post Harvest Operations. The Government of Kerala has informed that the main components under CSS scheme like Breakwater, Wharf, and Auction hall etc. has already completed. But the required tranquillity could not be achieved in the basin due to some issues in the model study. The matter was then addressed to the model study agency Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS), Pune. Meanwhile the remaining components like administrative block, internal road and parking area and compound wall amounting to Rs. 650 lakhs got sanctioned under NABARD RIDF XXIII. Administrative block work is completed and other works are progressing. The model study report suggested the extension of south breakwater by 490m to achieve the desired tranquillity. The proposal for the extension of Breakwater as per the revised model study report, amounting to Rs. 2233.11 lakh got sanctioned under NABARD RIDF XXV.
