Question : EXPORT OF IRON ORE



(a) whether the strategic advisory body of the Ministry has recommended to lower export levels of iron ore to safeguard the competitiveness of the domestic steel industry;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the current level of iron ore export and the extent to which it was recommended for lowering;

(c) whether the Government/Ministry is exporting iron ore to various countries at rates prevalent in 1950;

(d) if so, the reasons therefor; and

(e) the steps taken to rectify the situation and to ensure that our domestic consumers get a level-playing field?

(a)&(b): There is no Strategic Advisory Body in the Ministry of Steel at present. Therefore any recommendation by such body does not arise. Details of last three years’ export of Iron ore are as given below:
