(a) the sugar mills presently functioning in the country, State-wise;
(b) the number of sick sugar mills in the country, State-wise, till date, particularly in Bihar; and
(c) the steps taken by Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction to revive the sick sugar mills, till date?

(a): A statement showing the State-wise number of sugar mills functioning is at Annexure.
(b): The sick sugar companies belonging to Private and Public sectors are covered under the
Sick Industrial Companies (Special Provision) Act, 1985 (SICA). According to BIFR, 47 sick
sugar companies in Public and Private sectors have been registered with them as on 31.12.2001.
Out of 47 sugar companies 3 companies were registered twice and 1 company registered thrice at
different point of time. In view of this only 42 sugar companies having 75 sugar mills are
registered with BIFR. State-wise details are as follows:-
