Question : SARDAR SAROVAR DAM



(a) whether the Union Government are aware that share cost of Sardar Sarovar project is not being paid to Gujarat by the participating States, viz., Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan, regularly;

(b) if so, the reasons therefor; and

(c) the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Union Government to ensure immediate payment of outstanding dues from each participating State?

(a)&(b) Yes Sir. The three party States namely Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan have not been paying to Gujarat their full share of cost of Sardar Sarovar Project owing to, inter-alia, paucity of funds and dispute on sharing the cost of items like Resettlement and Rehabilitation interest on market borrowings etc.

(c) The Union Government have been requesting the three party States to make payment of their outstanding dues towards Sardar Sarovar Project to Government of Gujarat. All the three party States were again urged to pay their outstanding dues of Sardar Sarovar Project to Government of Gujarat as per the schedule in the 60th and 61st meeting of NCA held on 18.07.2000 and 17.11.2000, respectively.
