Question : Use of Fertilizers

Will the Minister of CHEMICALS & FERTILIZERS be pleased to state:

(a) the quantum of chemical fertilizers used annually in the country along with the quantum of organic/indigenous fertilizers used for agricultural purposes;

(b) whether the Government is considering to minimize the use of chemical fertilizers like urea;

(c) if so, the details of works done and efforts make in this regard along with the reasons therefor; and

(d) the manner in which the use of organic fertilizers is likely to be beneficial?

(a): The sales (consumption) of chemical fertilizers used annually in the country for the last three years is given in the table below:

Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers’ Welfare (DAC&FW) has informed that in the year 2014-15 a total of 2298.62 MT of different organic manures were produced/available in different States of the country.

(b) to (d): DAC&FW has informed that Government is promoting soil test based integrated Nutrient Management through conjunctive use of both inorganic and organic sources of plant nutrients. The Government is promoting the use of Neem Coated Urea which is having High efficiency over Urea. Organic manures are promoted for mobilizing both macro and micro nutrients in soil in both organic agriculture as well as in conventional agriculture. The main function is to supply the essential nutrients, improve the soil fertility status as well as sustain eco-friendly environment.
