THE MINISTER OF CHEMICALS AND FERTILIZERS (SHRI SURESH P. PRABHU)

(a) & (b) : A statement is laid on the table of the House.

Statement referred to in reply to parts (a) & (b) of Lok Sabha Starred Question No. 437 to be answered on 24.8.2000.

(a) The quantum of increase in subsidy on indigenous urea during the last three years is as follows:

Year	Quantum of increase in the amount of	subsidy on indigenous urea, as	compared to the subsidy paid during the	preceding year
1997-98 Rs.1823 crore 1998-99 Rs.1050 crore 1999-2000 Rs.1101 crore

(b) : The details of quantum of increase in subsidy on account of various factors such as increase in the cost of feed stock, increase in production etc. are not separately maintained. Increase in production and sharp rise in prices of feedstocks are, however, the main reasons for the increase in the quantum of subsidy.
