Question : NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR TEACHER EDUCATION



(a) whether the Government has recently reviewed the working of National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) and its regional centres;

(b) if so, the outcome of the review, Centre-wise;

(c) whether any irregularities have been noticed in the funds utilised by the regional centres;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the corrective steps taken/proposed to be taken for proper and effective funding of NCTE?

(a) & (b) The Government had in May 2010 constituted a Committee to review the functioning of the Northern Regional Committee (NRC), Jaipur of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The Committee has in its Report dated 6th August, 2010 given findings relating to the decision making process by the NRC and the Regional Office, Jaipur with regard to grant of recognition to institutions for the various teacher education courses and has made several recommendations for improving their functioning.

(c) to (e) No irregularities relating to utilization of funds by the Regional offices has come to the notice of the Government.
