(a): The Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) was launched on 25 June 2015 in selected 500 cities and towns across all States and Union Territories (UTs). The Mission focuses on development of basic infrastructure in the selected cities in the sectors of water supply; sewerage and septage management; storm water drainage; green spaces and parks; and non-motorized urban transport. Mission also executed a set of 11 reforms to improve governance of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Capacity Building of ULBs.
Under AMRUT, against the total approved plan size of ?77,640 crore of all the States/UTs for the entire Mission period, States/UTs have taken up 5,864 projects worth ?81,384 crore. Of these, 4,158 projects worth ?26,193 crore have been completed and while 1,706 projects costing ?55,191 crore are under implementation. So far, works worth ?60,446 crore have been physically completed. Further, projects costing about ?1,027 crore are at various stages of tendering. Some States/UTs have taken up projects in excess of their approved SAAP size. In such cases, the entire excess amount shall be borne by the States/UTs themselves.
Against the approved plan size of ?4,952.87 crore for the entire Mission, State of Karnataka has taken up 407 projects worth ?5,119 crore, of which 347 projects worth ?2,665 crore have been completed and remaining projects are under implementation.
Similarly, against the approved plan size of ?11,194.78 crore for the entire Mission, State of Tamil Nadu has taken up 444 projects worth ?12,690 crore, of which 421 projects worth ?2,678 crore have been completed and remaining projects are under implementation.
(b): A total of 27 cities of the State of Karnataka and 33 cities of the State of Tamil Nadu have been covered under AMRUT scheme.
All the cities/ towns having population of over one lakh (Census 2011) with notified Municipalities, including Cantonment Boards (Civilian areas), all capital cities / towns of States/ UTs, all cities/ towns classified as Heritage Cities under the HRIDAY Scheme, 13 cities/ towns on the stem of the main rivers with a population above 75,000 and less than 1 lakh, and 10 cities from hill states, islands and tourist destinations (not more than one from each State) have been covered under AMRUT.
(c): Details of the Central Assistance (CA) allocated to the States of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for AMRUT projects for the entire Mission period and Central Assistance released to these States and utilized by them during the last three financial years (FY) and current year are given as under:
