Question : SETTLEMENT OF SRI LANKAN TAMIL FAMILIES AT KATCHAL



(a) whether under the Shastri Srimao Bandaranayaka Pact of 1964 rehabilitated 48 Srilankan Tamil families at Katchal, a tribal area of Nicobar District during 1974 and 1976 and they were allotted with half an-acre land for the purpose of kitchen garden and given Daily Rated job in the Rubber Plantation there;

(b) whether the Tribal community of this area has been representing for shifting these Srilankan Tamil families to other non-tribal island;

(c) if so, whether the A&N Administration has taken any concrete step to shift these families to other non-tribal islands and the period by which the process is likely to be completed; and

(d) the details thereof?

(b): Yes, Sir, they have been representing to the A&N Administration.

(c) & (d): Andaman & Nicobar Administration has broadly decided to settle the 48 Sri Lankan repatriate families in revenue area of south Andaman.
